Wellness kid check-ups

Wellness kid check-ups are essential for any child’s growth and health. Wellness kid check-up is also called a wellness exam, well-care visit or an annual physical exam. These regular medical exams start when your child is just a few days old and continue until your child reaches 20 years old. Wellness check-ups are also the important tool for health care providers that they use to screen your child for any developmental or medical issues.
The wellness check-up is a great opportunity to ask your child’s pediatrician any questions or raise your concerns about your child’s development and overall behavior. The wellness check-up is also often used for scheduled vaccinations and tracking how much your child has grown since his or her last check-up. When you visit our Mesquite or Sunnyvale clinic do not hesitate to discuss your concerns with your child’s doctor. We will be happy to discuss your child’s development and answer your questions about sleeping and eating habits, social behavior, potty training and attention or learning difficulties.
If you are the first time parent you probably wonder when you should take your child for a wellness check-up. Below are suggested ages for wellness check-ups:

    1. Newborn
    2. 2-5 days
    3. 1 month
    4. 2 months
    5. 4 months
    6. 6 months
    7. 9 months
    8. 12 months
    9. 15 months
    10. 18 months
    11. 24 months (2 years old)
    12. 30 months (2 ½ years old)
    13. 3 years to 20 years

As a parent it is important for you to build a trustworthy relationship with your child’s pediatrician, which will lead to a better communication and a high quality care. When your child is due for a well-child visit, create a list of questions and health topics you would like to discuss with your pediatrician. Creating the list will help you to focus on issues you would like to address and will help to have a productive dialogue with your child’s doctor.

If you are the first time parent, you may hesitate to ask questions. Please don’t – we welcome your questions and you can ask us any questions related to your child, whether they are medical or not. You can ask your doctor the questions about your child’s immunizations, nutrition, safety tips at your home and outside or any environmental health concerns such as the exposure to lead paint.

At Pediatric Clinic of Mesquite and Pediatric Clinic of Sunnyvale our team of physicians and nurse practitioners are here to help you and ensure that your child has a healthy start in life. Please do not hesitate to contact us to schedule your child’s wellness check-up or with any questions you may have.
